Anxiety / Panic Attacks

If you ever feel a build on anxiety/panic/stress coming on then there is a simple technique you can do.

  1. Stand still

  2. Say out loud, 5 things you can see

  3. Say out loud, 4 things you can hear

  4. Say out loud, 3 things you can touch/feel

  5. Say out loud, 2 things you can smell

  6. Say out loud, 1 thing you can taste

By the time you have done this, you would've slowed your heart rate and become present.

When your mind races with thoughts, try to take a step back and tell yourself that the thoughts are not helping you, try to look at the thoughts in your mind and physically tell them you appreciate they are there but they’re not welcome right now because you are not in any danger. It is just your fight or flight response from your primitive mind. Actually accepting your thoughts and not trying to dismiss them means when they come again (and they likely will), they won’t feel as intense.
